Delphi
Delphi lies in Greece about seventy miles north west of Athens close to the Gulf of Corinth. In the time
of Socrates it was the supreme oracle in all of Greece and was considered to be
the center of the earth. It is worthy of note that Delphi provided a
common meeting-place for the all too individualistic (and isolated)
city-states of Greece. Though without the power to enforce its
pronouncements it was the closest thing to a Vatican found in the
classical Greek world. Like E. F. Hutton, when the Delphic Oracle talked
people listened!
