One of
the interesting and dynamic aspects of classical Greek mythology is its hero
worship. Such worship often involved the elevating of an actual historical
figure to the level of the superhuman. Other times the heroes were entirely
imaginary. Arguably the most popular hero figure in the Greek folk tales
is Heracles (Hercules). And, judging from syndicated
television, he remains so today! In the
Apology,
Socrates mentions
Palamedes and Ajax.
