Socrates states that belief in qualities implies
the existence of those things to which the qualities correspond. If horsemanship
(the quality of riding horses well) exists, then horses must exist too. So,
if he believes in spiritual agencies (or qualities) as
Meletus' affidavit affirms, he must believe in spiritual beings too.
Therefore, Socrates cannot be an atheist since
he believes in spiritual beings.
