This is one of the singular and most remarkable features of
Socrates' personality. He was always able to discuss
with dispassion the key issues of his day, including his own impending death!
Because this reference occurs early in the dialogue and a few days before
his execution, it can be viewed as a sign that
Socrates accepts his fate peacefully.
