Crito just doesn't get it! A day long discussion
about immortality has just concluded with Socrates
surmising that the soul, the truest and best part of a person, will survive
after death. Crito, however, still wants to know
what to do with the body, as if the lifeless corpse will be the real
Socrates! The gentle humor of
Socrates' reply shows his care for
Crito and his desire that
Crito understand what has been said.
Crito is far from the brightest of
Socrates' disciples, but his love for the master
and concern for details at the end of Socrates'
life is touching.
